Conceived in Broome, born in Perth, August 21 1930, author Malcolm Barker had his first glimpse of Broome in August 1973. He met Sam Male who showed him a foot operated printing press which his father, Keith Barker had left there around 1930.

By the good grace of the Broome Shire, this press was sent to the author's home in Perth where restoration was completed. Success was declared by printing Christmas cards before returning the press to Broome.

This book details how sending out these Christmas cards let to:

  • The Koombana Search Project team approaching the RAAF to successfully locate the Royal Mail Steamer lost in 1912.
  • The formation of the HMAS Sydney Research Group.
  • A "tour", guided by E.S. "Trig" Trigwell, of the South West Area Combined Heqadquarters logbook which pinpointed the location of the wreck of the German Raider HSK Kormoran.
  • Meeting Les McCann of the 2/4 Machine Gun Battalion who was in Singapore General Hospital when he learnt that the West Australian Invasion Force under General Yamashita had been scattered by a "big storm". This was proved to have happened north of Port Hedland on 22/23rd March 1942.
